Statistics in Hollywood

In addition to the lack of opportunties for on-screen actors, Black creatorrs face a distrubing amount of discrimination and overall lack of opportunity to create in Hollywood. The above graphic shows that only 11% of on screen leads are black and 14% of suporting actors are black. But the statistics increase even lower when it comes to content creators. Only 6% of directors and prodcuers are black and an even lower 4% of screenwriters are black. This leaves a dominating prescence of white actors and creators to control the success of Hollywood media.

The second graphic included shows the percentages of race and gender dominated branches of employment in the United States. To no surprise, the film industry is heavily white and male dominated, with over 92% of the film industry being white,  creating an addtional obstacle for people of color to "make it" in the media. It is also worth mentioning that on average, black families make 150,000 less than the median white family, making accesibility to acting classes, voice coaches, and other extra ciriculars to assist in additonal chances ot being succesful in Hollywood nearly unattainable. Additionally, black talent professionals recieve around 40% less funding for their project and do not recieve as much marketing in the media (whether that is commercials in t.v, radio ads, posters etc) making black cinema seem like its unsuccesful and not absorbed by the media.

Lastly, the thrid graphic shows a pie chart depicting the percentage of actors who are white compared to black and asian actors.
