Conclusion

This picture depicts Kawhi Leonard in a shit stating "All lives can't matter until black lives matter". Our group felt that this image was impactful and should be used to illustrate how important the movement is to bringing social justice to the black community.

This video depicts an interview that took place between Jonathan Issac and Huckabee. Jonathan talks about his approach to the social justice movement and how it differs form his fellow players. This was an important article to add because it highlights the multiple approaches that players are taking to speak up about the systemic injustices that exist in our nation.

These three items were important to our research because they talk about how the NBA as an organization got backlash for even thinking about letting the “BLM” movement into the NBA. The NBA was a little hesitant to allow the movement to enter the NBA (Martinez, 2020). NBA agents would call the move a “horrible look” for the league. Agents around the league were claiming that the players were being used (Martinez, 2020). Apparently, the agents truly believed the players did not know what they were getting into and were just being manipulated and hurting the business (Martinez, 2020). There was criticism to come anyway because of a movement that was controversial. There were talks about the ratings of tickets going down because of the movement (Martinez, 2020) As you can see the league only wants money and does not really care about the movement. NBA payers would hear some of this behind the scenes and would sit out the rest of the season after they found out. If the people you are working for don’t care about a movement concerning Black Lives, what is the reason to play and bring an organization money?

We have learned that a lot of information through projects can be presented in different formats and not just one. With our items, we have different representations of our topic with videos, pictures, and even memes. Your project is more likely to be interesting if you have different ways of presenting your information. You don’t want to have too much information either.

These three items that we have spoken about are how players are not kneeling, why there are not better police, and more. There are talks about African Americans being too emotional without a strategy. There were also talks about some of the marches that turn into riots and the people that are doing the damage in towns and buildings are not black people, it is mostly white. But, when there is a march for “BLM” people will assume that all the damage being done is by African Americans because of the name. A lot of different situations are happening during this time and it is throwing off the main point of the movement talking about hotel quality and what exactly to put on the jerseys. The focus from the beginning of the movement was not the same as it went on. The focus kept changing and there was not enough strategy by the black community.

What we have learned from research relates to materials in class on the level of race. When we say “race” we mean, there will be a lot of disagreement in situations but everything can be resolved if everyone works together. These three items were more of showing what was put on the jerseys. There was a lot of commotion about what to put on the jerseys or if anything should even go on the jersey. Once the NBA figured out if they wanted to put any movement writing on the jersey the video game “2k” which is a basketball game even came out with shirts and hoodies for players to wear that had “BLM” on them and more. There was even one time the whole community of 2k players wore all-black and “BLM” shirts to support the movement. Once you have a whole gaming community joining in on a movement that is a good sign.
